08:05 am - somethin' new to look at Rosenquist makes the big paintings, that can be read as filmic cuts, and the way that Rosenquist juxtaposes the images on his work reminded me of some of the things that Francis Bacon does in some paintings, where a visual cut (sometimes in the form of an object or an animal) is made on the canvas with color and geometric positioning. This reminded me of the obsession Bacon had with Eisenstein’s “Battleship Potekmin” particularly the scene of the woman screaming and the camera close up on her mouth, and how Bacon professed to be haunted by that image. I think another thing that leaks into these ideas is the nature of dreaming, and how Murch thinks that the reason we can watch films and have them make sense is due to dreaming preparing us for extreme jumps in perspective on many levels. Maybe the increasing rate of image exposure that spans massive distances of time and space sort of jars the senses into a creative mode of systemic recognition or at least homogenizes the visual value of things. Something about Vonnegut too with his alien creatures from Slaughterhouse 5 that could see in time, an idea that parallels Giacometti’s perceptions of sculptures that as objects in space grew and receded into the distance. I think I like Warhol for similar reasons as I like Klein. I like how ambiguous they can be, and I like it when they make a joke out of the things that they make and do. Warhol can be really funny when the press is interviewing him. He shrugs off questions onto his starlets, and they almost always have some vapid response - or sometimes Warhol just completely ignores someone’s questions and looks around.

10:24 am - common problem my sense of time is almost always completely fucked. i have to stop everything and focus to discern exactly what my position in time is and i have to focus hard to plan accordingly. my sense of direction is almost nonexsistant. well, actually it is entirely reversed. numbers tend to evade my comprehension. i drive based on visual clues, so come nightfall in an unfamiliar setting, i tend to make wrong turns.
i dislike legal documents, bank papers, applications, forms, questionnaires, credit card companies, telemarketers, internet spam, but i enjoy (appreciate) deadlines, and parameters.
i want to remove these problems from my day to day life. and work hard on problems that my brain can process. Current Mood: sleepy

12:31 pm - media! Primer was really good, i am confused by it though. I am interested in its ideas all the same. They remind me of Philip Dick and Ariel Pink and Boards of Canada. Too bright and too dreamy, unreal enough to make it memorable.
I liked the editing and the acting too. Sometimes they would cut around too rapidly when they might have benefitted from slowing down the pacing.
Went to the study abroad office today, decided against the Japan options, but in favor of another, a trip to Ireland.
Gonna chop my hairs on friday.
Still gotta go to the Art Musuem though. Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Dresden Dolls - Coin-Operated Boy

10:17 pm - lots of stuff i got a lot of new books, i am really excited to start reading all of them - although my pile keeps getting bigger and i never really make a good dent in it. its good though cause i have all these vague things on my mind and i need to organize thoughts or at least get new ones.
i like the new my morning jacket, especially this son "lay low"
just sorta been getting ready for school, working, paling around with jess and dan, thinking, etc.
best buy frustrates me, i am gonna try to use my gift cards online i guess since everything is picked through at the one by us. maybe i should go to a best buy in an area with a more affluent demographic. i wonder if they cater to their environment or if they have the same stock everywhere.... although i cant see why that would be the case.
so many albums i want to get! my list doubled or tripled over break. jess and i were talking about how we have sorta stayed the same while a lot of other kids have changed a fair amount. i would imagine thats what most people would say about everyone else around them. if you don't change in relation to someone else at least.
i tend to get the sense that my environment holds me back so that other people can profit. i am still the same commodity i always was. actually, more-so now.
i got a lot of books! i am so excited~~! :D haha this is all just mind cleansing gibberish. Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Lay Low - My Morning Jacket

04:06 pm - sampling! and trampling!!!! with all the music sampling that goes on in music, wouldn't it be great if you could just "cite" your sources (like a research paper!) and that would be the end of it - instead of the money grubbing bastardocity of music rights?

01:21 pm - a journal is for updating, so i remember. "There's a Wocket in my Pocket!" is my favorite Dr. Seuss book.

I overheard some kids on the 'L' talking about Chunsa, it was sorta surreal. What am I doing in a city? I don't know who or how I associate with anyone, it all seems so random.
Sketchbook Chicago was last night too, it was funny and a good time, plus Ramon and I got a pizza again and I devoured most of it. I really want falafel tonight but the money be tight.
I am pretty frustrated with UIC. I do have decent classes, but i want / need animation. I am tired of taking relatively low level art classes cause most of the stuff I want is full. I need me an illustration course. I want to move to some crazy art school in california or in europe (or japan, or anywhere) and just take ridiculous amounts of classes where i learn and learn and constantly draw and practice.
Drawing II: Intermediate Introduction to Computer Graphics Video I Art History II
Next semester if i live at home I wont have 400+ a month in bills plus i can probably work two extra days.... that would be lots of work but pretty great. Damn, i hope i can sublet... If not, I might not be able to go to japan... and thats nooooooooo goood.

I feel pretty good, i got a lot done this week so far, but still a lot to go in the grand scheme of things. I have had a lot of food this week too which is a little weird... i feel too well fed haha. tonight i am going to take a train to aurora borealis to hang out with tory and her sister and one of their good friends brian and we are going to see a movie and maybe do some hhaalloowweenn shopping.
Yesterday the project went well but alberto didn't get to punch me cause my legs gave out to early. I noticed that as soon as i got the idea in my head to stop, my legs just gave up. mind over matter boys and girls. mind over matter - applicable in many aspects but ideally , best for moments of physical duress. not for sustaining presence of mind in social situations.

small changes can go a long way in making the whole world a better place. instead the trend is back-ass-wards.
